We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase Catalyst Studio Schoolhouse and discuss how we use the Expeditionary Learning (EL) model to engage learners in a journey toward high achievement through inquiry-based learning, character growth, and teamwork.
As a K-8 community, the mission of Catalyst Studio Schoolhouse is to empower students and staff to be learners, thinkers, citizens, and explorers. A schoolhouse of engaged learners, inspired by the real world. We are a crew not passengers and we are learners rather than students.
Learning is an expedition into the unknown. These expeditions draw together personal experience and intellectual growth to promote self-discovery and the construction of knowledge. The EL model and its inquiry-based approach to learning transforms the traditional classroom into a learning lab, where students are encouraged to work collaboratively with peers to seek answers through guided discovery and experimentation.
The teacher's role is as a facilitator rather than a director of the learning experience. This form of guided-learning enhances comprehension—rather than memorizing facts and taking notes.
Catalyst Studio Schoolhouse guides learners along their journey with care, compassion, and respect for their diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and needs. Addressing individual differences profoundly increases the potential for learning and creativity.
